Step into Nature
Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or a more challenging hike, the stunning landscapes of North Yorkshire are yours to explore, and you’ll find an incredible choice of walking routes right on our doorstep, or just a short drive away.
The Cleveland Way
Winding for 109 miles through breathtaking landscapes, the Cleveland Way offers the best of both worlds – wild heather moorland and dramatic coastal scenery. Beginning in the charming market town of Helmsley, the trail weaves through rolling hills, forests, and farmland before reaching the North Yorkshire coastline at Saltburn-by-the-Sea. From there, it hugs the coast, passing historic fishing villages like Robin Hood’s Bay and bustling seaside towns such as Whitby and Scarborough, before finishing at Filey.
If you’d prefer a shorter adventure, the trail can be enjoyed in sections. Gisborough Hall is just a stone’s throw from the Kildale to Saltburn stretch – perfect for a well-earned bite to eat or an overnight stay to recharge before your next leg.
Head to the National Trails website for the route details and map.
Captain Cook’s Monument to Roseberry Topping – 7.2-mile circular walk
This scenic loop connects two of the area’s most iconic landmarks. Start at Captain Cook’s Monument, built in memory of the legendary explorer born nearby, then follow the trail to Roseberry Topping, where panoramic views await at the summit. A rewarding walk linking history and nature.
Head to the National Trust’s website for the route details and map.
Guisborough Forest Walking Trails
Just a short stroll from the hotel, Guisborough Forest is a haven for wildlife and walkers alike. Meander through woodland paths, spot kingfishers by the pond, listen for the rhythmic tapping of woodpeckers, or – if you’re lucky – catch a glimpse of deer darting through the trees.
Head to the Forestry England website for more information.
Danby Castle – 2-mile circular walk
For a shorter but equally charming route, this gentle walk from The Moors National Park Centre takes you along quiet field paths and country lanes, offering beautiful views of the Esk Valley. A perfect choice if you’re looking for a peaceful countryside escape.
Head to the North York Moors website the route details and map.
