Visit the North Yorkshire Coast

When summer arrives there’s no better place to be than beside the seaside.  As places beside the sea go, we’re spoilt for choice with the North Yorkshire coastline just a short drive away.  Some of our favourite spots are Saltburn-by-the-sea, Whitby, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay – find out more about these coastal gems here. 

Explore the North York Moors

With over 1,400 miles of natural beauty, The North York Moors National Park is home to heather moorland, rolling hills, forests, ancient woodland, and dramatic coastline.

In late summer the moorland heather flowers bloom, transforming the landscape into a beautiful carpet of purple.

There are plenty of picturesque walks through the North York Moors National Park for you to soak up the scenery.  Whether you want a leisurely saunter or strenuous hike you’ll be able to enjoy the great outdoors and connect with nature. Visit a country show

Country shows are a huge part of summer in North Yorkshire; a celebration of farming, country life often with entertainment and great local food.

Guisborough Summer Sound Music Festival (26th – 28th July)

A weekend full of live entertainment, fireworks, street entertainers, festival stalls, funfair, cocktail bars, and street food.

Saltburn Food Festival – Sunday 28th July

The annual food festival will host over 120 stalls offering local artisan produce and food from around the world.  The free outdoor event, with food demonstrations, tasty food, and live music is a celebration of food and drink.

Flower picking in Gisborough Priory Gardens

Rowes at Priory Gardens are the third generation of flower growers at the Priory Gardens.  They have a fun calendar of workshops such as flower arranging, floral painting, and wreath making, but our favourite is their pick your own flower sessions that allow you to explore their gardens and pick your own blooms.

Saltburn Folk Festival (9th – 11th August)

A weekend-long festival celebrating music, dance and storytelling.  The multivenue event includes concerts, workshops, singalong sessions, folk dance, family activities and street food.

Whitby Regatta (17th – 19th August)

A weekend of entertainment focussed around yacht and rowing races, finishing with a firework display.
