Walk This Way
From a seat on our sun-drenched terrace you can enjoy views of the Cleveland Hills and Guisborough Forest, and with a hop, skip and jump (or in some cases a short drive) you can join some fantastic walking routes in the North York Moors National Park and surrounding areas.
The Cleveland Way
The Cleveland Way Walking Trail is a 109 mile route that crosses the beautiful North York Moors National Park and follows the scenic North Yorkshire coastline.
The route starts in the picturesque town of Helmsley and heads across the North York Moors National Park with its beautiful landscape of heather moorland, rolling hills, forest, and farmland, and passes through charming country villages.
The route reaches the coast at Saltburn-by-the-sea, a Victorian seaside town, and follows the North Yorkshire coastline passing traditional fishing villages, the smuggler’s village of Robin Hood’s Bay, and the bustling coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough, before reaching the finish point at Filey.
The Cleveland Way can be divided and enjoyed as shorter walks. Gisborough Hall is a stone’s throw from the route on the Kildale to Saltburn section, and can be used as a place to enjoy a bite to eat along the route or as a place to stay overnight to rest and relax.
Head to the National Trails website for the route details and map.
Captain Cook’s Monument to Roseberry Topping – 7.2 mile circular walk
This circular walk takes in two of the areas most popular places of interest: Captain Cook’s Monument, which was built in 1827 in memory of the circumnavigator who was born in the nearby village, and Roseberry Topping, a National Trust local landmark that provides panoramic views from the top.
Head to the National Trust’s website for the route details and map.
Guisborough Forest Walking trails
There are various walking routes and trails through Guisborough Forest, which can be reached easily from the hotel or from Guisborough Branch Walkway. This area is great to spot wildlife, kingfishers can be spotted around the pond at the branch walkway; woodpeckers can be heard in the surrounding area, and deer can be seen in the forest.
Head to the Forestry England website for more information.
Danby Castle – 2 mile circular route
This pleasant walk starts off at The Moors National Park Centre and follows quiet field paths and country lanes, with views of the Esk Valley – great route for a shorter walk.
Head to the North York Moors website the route details and map.
